Get ready for BBQ season with these 6 hamburger favourites

May is National Hamburger Month, a celebration of one of the greatest foods ever created and an Urbery favourite.

At Urbery, we love hamburgers – we love thick, juicy Angus burgers, chicken burgers, even veggie burgers! Hamburgers really are the quintessential barbeque item and since May ushers in the barbeque season, we think this holiday celebration is perfect.

We asked our Grocery Gurus for their favourite ways to dress a hamburger – and boy did we get some interesting answers!

Here are the 6 top hamburger dressing suggestions straight from our Grocery Gurus:

1. The Great Canadian
“I call my burger the Great Canadian because of my secret ingredient – maple syrup! There’s no veggie filler in this burger – I top it with real Canadian bacon, swiss cheese, and of course, maple syrup.”
Mike S., Grocery Guru

2. Veggie Delight
“As a vegetarian, I prefer my burgers of the veggie variety. In true veggie fashion, I top my burger with as much fresh produce as possible – onions (thinly sliced), tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, hot peppers, avocado, mushrooms, and a little kale if it’s available.”
Dylanne C., Grocery Guru

3. The Everything Burger
“When it comes to hamburgers, I don’t discriminate – give me everything! I like to start with the condiments – mustard, mayo, relish, and ketchup, I’ll even add hot sauce if it’s there. I like to melt mozzarella cheese right on my burger and top it with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, grilled peppers, avocado, sauerkraut, and jalapenos.”
Sebastien P., Grocery Guru

4. The Caliente
“I like my burgers hot and spicy – which is why I always eat burgers with an ice cold Corona close by! My perfect burger has spicy havarti cheese, jalapenos, hot peppers, and spicy salsa and hot sauce on the bun.”
Elaine W., Grocery Guru

5. The Plain Jane
“Sometimes traditional really is the best, especially with food. I like my hamburgers served the plain, old fashioned way – a slice of cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, with ketchup and mustard on the bun. Simple, easy, and delicious!”
Samantha R., Grocery Guru

6. The Vegan Burger
“As a vegan, finding something to eat at a barbeque can be tough, so I typically make my own patties and bring them with me. I place chickpeas, sweetcorn, coriander leaves, flour and a handful of spices into my food processor (for those who want to try it out, here is Jamie Oliver’s great vegan burger recipe). I love my veggies, so I usually stack my burger with anything that’s available, add a little mustard, and I’m good to go.”
Derek L., Grocery Guru
